Old Royal Adelaide Hospital Carpark

The Royal Adelaide Hospital is Adelaide’s most prestigious public hospital and is located on a relatively small parcel of land on the northern edge of the city’s Central Business District.

The site is highly developed, mostly made up of high-rise buildings which form the hospital proper, ancillary buildings such as nurses’ living quarters and buildings which contain dentistry departments and research laboratories.

The Institute of Medial and Veterinary Science (IMVS) is also located on the site.

For many years the question of car parking has plagued the site. Ground-level parking has historically been difficult. Lack of security and lighting has added to the problems, particularly for staff working shift-work.

To overcome these difficulties, the Hospital has commissioned a multi-level car park. This ten floor 32,000 square metre, 6,100 cubic metre steel and concrete car park is constructed on a very tight site with very stringent logistic requirements.

Saccardo Constructions was chosen for their ability to co-ordinate and manage the delivery of reinforcement and concrete placement with structural steel and pre-cast elements so that there would be minimal down time for the many cranes used on this site.

Having our own concrete boom pump ensured that we had total control over the timing of concrete pours to suit overall programming and to ensure a smooth construction.
